Godlove Chi Awasom
Godlove Chi Awasom aka Goddy Shake, son of the late Rt. Rev. H.A. Awasom Moderator emeritus of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) and Mrs Susan Awasom passed away Sept. 30th in Plains GA after a long struggle with brain aneurysm, having been in a coma since Nov. 1st 2014. Goddy Shake is last of five children and is preceded in death by his older brother Godwin Awasom and father Rev. H.A Awasom.
Goddy Shake was born on 02/23/1975 in Cameroon West Africa. He grew up in Cameroon and Germany where his love for sports and music, faith and family blossomed. He played soccer in his early years but his love for music dominated his youthful and adult life. He started playing local Cameroonian Makossa music, participated in many national competitions and won many state titles. He moved to the USA with his beautiful wife Marceline Awasom in 2007 and expanded his musical horizon and included Rock n’ roll, blues pop, country and gospel thus making him a world music lover’s delight. Goddy Shake used his musical talent not only to entertain fans in Cameroon, USA and Canada but also raise funds for charitable causes for his alma mater, alumni associations, various cultural groups and a host of others. Besides his musical career, Shake was an accountant by profession and worked for Azire cooperative credit union, Care One, Pizza hut, Bank of America, Walmart and checkers. He was a student at Strayer University, had just been employed by Georgia Ports Authority and was on the verge of starting his own small business before his sudden illness.
Faith and family was very central to his life and he showered his wife and kids with as much love as imaginable. He and his family are members of White bluff Presbyterian Church where he was a former elder and used his beautiful voice and musical talent to praise and worship God.
He had the inert talent to bring people together. Thanks to this talent, our local Cameroonian group “Country People of Savannah” was formed where he was the president until his illness. During his time as president of country people, he led a fund raising effort where close to $1000 was raised for an orphanage Roots for kids Buea Cameroon. He also inspired other members to volunteer at local homeless shelters and nursing homes in savannah. He served in various other groups like BAATANs, PERXANs, KUPEXANs etc. His last project he worked very hard on was towards an enlarged family reunion around his wife’s graduation and birth of his last son Benjamin in his beloved Savannah GA which the cruel hands of death did not let him see it to fruition.
Goddy Shake leaves behind his precious mother, beautiful wife, three amazing boys, the youngest which he never had the opportunity to physically see, two siblings, a host of brothers and sisters, God children, family and friends around the globe to mourn him. We will forever cherish the great moments God blessed us with Godlove here on earth and will miss his warmth, his humor and silky debonair personality.
Rest in Peace Shake my lil' brother. The world has lost a gem as the heavenly choir gains a lead singer and teddy bear with a soulful praise and worship voice and dance moves. Your spirit lives on in Marc and the kids as we struggle to uphold your cherished values of faith, service to humanity, family unity, love and brotherhood. Your job is done, your time is come and so may the heavenly gates open to welcome you till we all meet to part no more in the land where there is no sorrow, no suffering no pain!
